Sixteen seniors awarded by Wasco Community Scholarship Association
Wasco, CA - The Wasco Community Scholarship Association (WCSA) has been providing scholarships to graduating seniors and alumni for sixty years. Sixteen graduates received this year’s awards at the May 5, Wasco High School Winner’s Circle ceremony in the historical Wasco High School auditorium.
Eleven seniors earned $4,000 scholarships for Wasco High School to four year college. Recipients were Erik Castillo, Celeste Castro, Nicholas Contreras, Antonio Maldonado, Paulina Martinez, Ava Felicitas Melendrez, Eddie Nunez, Sesilia Rodriguez, Yareli Sanchez and Kierdyn Wilson. Arturo Nunez was awarded $5,000 as this year’s WCSA Top Scholar. Receiving $2,000 Wasco High School to two year college or trade school scholarships were Betzaida Alvarado, Samuel Gomez Bernal, Terry Gutierrez, Jazlyn Juarez and Jessica Stewart-Tyler.
WCSA President Betsy Rogers shared “We had more than 80 qualified applicants this year so there was a lot of competition for the scholarships we could award. It seems that the applications, the essays and the grades get better each year. Wasco High has some outstanding students that we are proud to support each year.”
In addition to the sixteen graduating seniors, an additional eight scholarships will be given to alumni. A total of twenty-four scholarships are being awarded to alumni and current seniors for the 2025-26 academic year by WCSA.
Founded in 1965, the WCSA has awarded more than one million dollars in scholarships since its inception. Composed mostly of Wasco High Alumni, the Board is committed to helping graduates achieve their goals through continuing education. WCSA receives donations from alumni, Wasco residents, local organizations and clubs.
